Spain Monarchy scandal
From fraudulent activities to the hunting of endangered species, these are just a few of the scandals that the Spanish Royal Family has had to endure in recent years. Amid corruption inquiries carried on by Spain's Supreme court, which involve former king Juan Carlos, a new one has emerged.
Juan Carlos abdicated in 2014 due to the struggle his reign had with low popularity numbers, yielding the throne to his son, Felipe VI. When the Royals were starting to regain their people's trust, Juan Carlos's alleged one-time mistress, Corinna Larsen, accused him of corruption. As a result, the monarchy's image that Felipe VI had been restoring was once again stained by his father's actions.
5 days ago, Juan Carlos gave Spaniards one more reason for them to be furious. He left the country, and as of today, his whereabouts are unknown. For most, this proves the suspicion they had he took part in unlawful activities; on the other hand, everyone can agree that Felipe VI needs to fix this issue quickly, if not his family and his rule will face disastrous consequences.
