Barbados want to quit Queen Elizabeth II as their head of State.
The Barbados government announced on Wednesday its intention to remove Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. "The time has come to totally put our colonial past behind us," said Mia Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados.
The government of Barbados wants to become a Republic by November 2021. When the 55th anniversary of Independence from the United Kingdom is celebrated. Buckingham Palace, affirms that it is a matter of the population of Barbados.
Let us remember that Queen Elizabeth continues to be Queen of several countries and territories around the world. Only in the Caribbean it governs 10 countries and 5 territories. Let's remember that in 2012 Jamaica tried the same thing, to become a republic, but the parliament and the population in general did not allow it.
