The president of Mali, Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, resigned this Tuesday

Yesterday, Tuesday, August 18, the President of Mali resigned from office and announced the departure of the Prime Minister and the dissolution of Parliament, leaving power to the army, which were the ones who initiated this coup.

Why did the troops make the coup?

The troops were upset by the treatment and pay they were given, in addition to the fact that they were often sent to fight with jihadists, also that the president and his government did not have Mali so happy with their policies.

International reaction:

- The Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, demanded the "unconditional release" of the leaders of Mali and the "immediate restoration of constitutional order."

- The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday at the request of France and Niger, a senior UN diplomat told AFP news agency.
